Course Description

Ekphrasis is a term that comes from Greek to describe literary depictions of visual works of art. Ekphrastic writing is writing about art: paintings, photographs, music, natural scenes, sculpture, etc. In the class, works of art will be presented to inspire students to use words to describe what they see. We will look at examples of professional ekphrastic writing and consider strategies to enhance writing quality. Participants will also be free to choose their own works for inspiration. We will write both during and between classes. Writing will be shared and/or critiqued according to individual student preferences. We will have fun being creative. Meet for 4 weeks with possible informal extensions for members of the group who wish to continue.
